Save Microberlinia bisulcata
Save Microberlinia bisulcata Efforts to save Microberlinia bisulcata a CR and endemic species of Mt Cameroon has failed because of ignorance of its conservation, the lack of resources for effective monitoring and the absence of a legal restriction on the logging of the species. We will thus address this through sensitization, empowerment of local authorities to protect it and a circular to restrict logging of the species.
Mission: To conserve wildlife and protect fragile environments through research, training, education and community engagement Objectives: 1. To develop priorities and strategies for addressing relevant rural and environmental issues 2. To provide local communities with the means to efficiently manage their natural resources and to alleviate poverty 3. To develop successful and/or potentially successful strategies for mobilizing communities and people to conserve their natural resources 4. To promote women's role in conservation and development through training and support of women programs 5. To fight against deforestation, land degradation and desertification 6. To promote alternative sustainable development strategies in rural areas including development of alternative models of rural financing. 7. To promote advocacy, education, training and information programmes that increase people's awareness of environmental problems as well as human issues affecting environmental management and their remedies. Date of establishment: 1999 Geographical area: The Western Highlands of Cameroon Target species: IUCN listed species. Habitats: Hills and Mountains, Forests, Fresh and Marine water ecosystems
1. Main activities
1. Sensitization of the local communities
2. Sensitization and striking of collaboration deal with SEPFCO (a logging company operating where the remnants stands are)
3. Empowerment of the Chief of Forestry Post of the area and his Village Forest Management Committee to protect the species
4. Cause the South West Regional Delegation of Forestry to place legal restriction on the species.
5. Initiate the process of creating a Community Forest in the Mokokon area.
