1. To document the species and their habitats. 2. To assess the conservation status of the endemic cave-adapted species. We will create a checklist of the cave invertebrates in the part of the Komarnica Canyon that will be affected by the proposed hydropower dam and a 10-km zone north and south of it. For each species in the list, we will assess (a) whether it is endemic to the area, (b) whether the flooding of the valley will probably cause its global extinction, and, if not, (c) what impact its local extinction will make on its global conservation status. 3. To publicize these in the local and international media via our network of environmental journalists. We will communicate the potential extinctions of endemic cave invertebrates in the Komarnica valley and highlight the general absence of such considerations in hydropower project planning in karst areas in general. 4. To do the Red List assessments for each species. 5. To summarise our findings in a report which we present to the local NGOs and the European Commission in Brussels.
