In search of Allobates goianus, an endangered species endemic to the Cerrado of Central Brazil.
Allobates goianus is a species that occupies temporary streams of rocky slopes and gallery forests in the Cerrado of Brazil. Since 2014, the species is reported as endangered and the main threats are habitat loss and habitat fragmentation for agro-pastoral activities. This project aims to find the species in a protected area where it has not been found for 50 years.
The project aims to rediscover the species in its type locality as well as find new populations in adjacent suitable areas, conduct surveys to estimate abundance of specimens, obtain key material (tissue samples to access the populations genetic structure) and also information about the species natural history (e.g., reproductive activities), and evaluate threats and promote actions to the conservation of the species.
