Ecological Observations of Cora Mud Turtle (Kinosternon cora) in Nayarit and Sinaloa, Mexico
Conserving newly discovered Kinosternid turtle endemic in coastal plain western Mexico.
The coastal plain of western Mexico currently stands out as having the greatest diversity of freshwater turtles in the country. However, for most members of the family kinosternidae, basic ecological data is still lacking. A good example of this situation is Kinosternon cora, which is described in 2020 and is only known from its original type locality description.
Our objective is to carry out studies of its distribution, habitat use and population abundance to assess its vulnerability to human activities, and propose the appropriate category of conservation status by the IUCN and the NOM-O59-SEMARNAT of Mexico, and develop conservation strategies for the species.
