SOS Elephants mission is dedicated to the preservation of the elephants and their habitats throughout various regions of Chad by employing method in research, education, conservation and counter poaching disciplines. Recently, the organisation started rescuing baby orphans elephants. The objective of SOS Elephants is to eradicate the poaching of the elephants and create in the country a new economy for essentially the rural communities based on the ecotourism. The local communities are extremely poor and living near by the elephants, this is the reason why SOS Elephants is very involved with the communities and aims to create revenues in order that the local communities find an interest to protect the pachyderms and help us in counter poaching disciplines . SOS Elephants was officially registered the 13 of March 2009 by the Ministry of home in Chad but the activities of the organisation started in 2008. The structure is currently working in two main areas , where there is important groups of elephants, the Mayo –Lemie department (1500 elephants) and the Logone Oriental (more in the South of the country, 1500 elephants ) Chad is a very arid country and more and more exposed to the desertification nevertheless, several areas of the south of the country are occupied by the savannah where the elephants are living and a small group of elephants (300) are living near the Lake Chad under which is slowly disappearing due to the dryness and another small group is living near Cameroon close to the forest.
