The main aim of this project is to investigate the socio-environmental threats to populations of Dimorphandra exaltata, prospect for new populations, and disseminate the knowledge and strategies needed for the conservation and long-term sustainability of the target species. To this end, field expeditions will be carried out to monitor known populations, investigating the vulnerabilities of populations and the emergence of possible new vectors of pressure. Exploratory expeditions to collect botanical material and map new populations in unexplored areas will be carried out to expand the known occurrences of the species. In addition, campaigns will be carried out with the community in these areas to instigate and stimulate them to search for the species in a citizen-science project, with the aim of involving populations in conservation (based on the great success of this strategy in the case of Dimorphandra wilsonii). Seeds will also be collected to study the initial growth of the species for the creation of a base population, as well as the collection of other plant structures for genetic and ecophysiological analysis. The data resulting from this project will support additional effective conservation actions, such as the management of in situ populations and the selection of individuals for restoration/reintroduction.
