The goal of this project is to identify and protect key habitats for Ranacephala hogei along the Carangola River basin, utilizing GPS biologging technology, drones equipped with thermal cameras, and citizen science, to mitigate threats and implement conservation strategies. Recent studies in the Carangola River region have indicated that habitat destruction is the primary cause of population declines for this species. Additionally, the presence of wild boar (an invasive exotic mammal) in the area contributes to habitat degradation and poses a threat through predation of eggs and hatchlings. Alongside these activities, this project aims to evaluate the extent of the area used by Ranacephala hogei, protect potential nesting sites, identify areas suitable for restoration, and engage local communities in citizen science activities and species conservation efforts.
