Saving the Critically Endangered Indigo-winged Parrot through community engagement
To assist the recovery of the CR Indigo-winged Parrot and four threatened parrot species restricted to the Cordillera Central of Colombia and to protect their associated habitats we will undertake the following specific objectives: 1). Artificial Nest Box Program: Conducting an intensive effort to enhance nesting success. 2). Research scholarships to study and monitor the parrot: Protecting populations through regular monitoring and direct intervention by rangers, students and the community. 3). Community-led EcoTourism initiative: that integrates conservation values and community development through an innovative “Threatened Parrots EcoRoute” through the regions critical habitats.
