Search for a missing species: Itatiaia Highland Frog: does it still exists?
The main goal of this project is trying to find the target species (Holoaden bradei and Paratelmatobius lutzii). The searching will focus in adjacent suitable areas, as they are less explored and have the potential to be inhabited by unknown populations of the species. With positive results, we will be able to infer the major threats to the species and to find out why they haven’t been found for the past decades (e.g. diseases, deforestation, local human activities, temperature). We intent to use the results for decision-making on priority areas for conservation of the species and, if necessary, to propose translocation plans of individuals to increase the effective population size of the most endangered lineages.
