This project aims to obtain a better understanding of the distribution, demographics and threats to the population of Encephalartos lebomboensis in Mozambique, providing therefore, practical results to help in the development of policies and conservation strategies for the species safeguarding the long term existence of the species. Specifically the project objectives are to i) assess the distribution, area of occupancy, abundance and structure of Encephalartos lebomboensis population in Mozambique; ii) determine the environmental and anthropogenic factors that affect the distribution, abundance and population structure of this species; iii) assess the local uses, amount harvested and traded as well as threats to this species population; iv) create public awareness about the importance of the species and the need for its conservation.
