Conservation actions for monitoring and protecting the endangered and the only reef-like structured species in the Mediterranean Sea, Cladocora caespitosa
We plan to make series of actions devoted to conservation, monitoring and awareness of Cladocora caespitosa •Extend the current knowledge about the distribution, population, and ecology of the species, increasing the available information identifying and describing new sub-population. •Start a long-term monitoring program of biotic and abiotic factors to monitor population trends, especially relevant in the actual context of global change impacts. •Inform on the main traits of Cladocora caespitosa populations, their health status and local threats by alerting managers, divers, technicians and communities about its values and characteristics and benefits of conserving the species, by a dissemination campaign including several tools. •Ensure the protection of the subpopulations of C. caespitosa by reducing damage to the colonies by threats such as anchoring, fishing, recreational diving, dredging activities.
