Study of the Data Deficient Rara Lake Frogs in mid western Nepal
Rara Lake Frog (Nanorana rarica) is endemic to Nepal and has been reported only from the Lake Rara (2,990m asl) situated at Rara National Park, Nepal. The species was described by Dubois & Matsui, 1983 as a new species based on morphometry and hardly any other information exists about it that's why the IUCN Red List (2004) has placed it under the Data Deficient category.

The overall objectives of this project are;
1. Presence/absence survey of N. rarica in and around the lake and documentation of other amphibians.
2. Collect morphometry measurement and preserve voucher specimens to extract DNA samples for phylogenetic diagnosis.
3. Compare N. rarica with other congeners to determine phenotypic diversity and see population divergence (if any).
4. Educate local community, hotels (business), visitors, and park officials about amphibian conservation.
