Priorities for the conservation of freshwater shrimp Barbouria cubensis in north east, Cuba, an endangered species.
1- Evaluate the conservation status of Barbouria cubensis in Cuba (IUCN criteria). 1.1- To update its distribution range 1.2- To identify natural and anthropogenic threats 2- To collect base line ecological information 2.1- To characterize its basic habitat requirements 2.2 Determine the influence of environmental parameters on the populations of Barbouria cubensis at different sampling sites. 3- To conduct an awareness-raising campaign 3.1- To promote the knowledge and conservation of Cuban freshwater red shrimp and their habitats. 3.2- To train volunteers from the communities and technical staff from the protected areas in the identification of the Cuban freshwater shrimp fauna. 3.3 To identify specific threats to Barbouria cubensis through negative human interaction, habitat degradation to ensure functional ecosystems. 3.4. Propose a management plan that allows reducing the extinction of the species and conserving the ecosystems where they live in the northeastern region of Cuba. 3.5 To contribute to environmental and social change on the ground and community education.
