Conservation of Endangered and Endemic Xenopoecilus bonneorum After Rediscovery in Lindu Lake, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Our project focuses on conserving the endemic fish species Xenopoecilus bonneorum in Lake Lindu, located in Central Sulawesi. We aim to protect this unique species through habitat mapping, population studies, and community education. The presence of numerous predatory fish, such as tilapia and mujair, in Lake Lindu poses a significant threat to the endemic fish population. Additionally, the disposal of chemical residues from rice field spraying, which flows into the lake via nearby rivers, can degrade water quality and disrupt fish habitats, including those of Xenopoecilus bonneorum. Our findings will inform conservation strategies and raise awareness to ensure the survival of this species. Explore our work to discover how we are safeguarding this remarkable ecosystem.
The objectives of this project are to conserve the species by: 1. Creating a distribution map of Xenopoecilus bonneorum in Lake Lindu. 2. Studying the current ecological conditions, habitat, and population status of Xenopoechillus bonneorum. 3. Sharing project results with the government, stakeholders, and the community to protect and preserve the habitat. 4. Publishing project results in scientific journals, at seminars, and through social media.
