Conserving Isthmohyla treefrogs through research, education, and community engagement in Central America's highlands

The primary objectives of this grant are to investigate the diversity, distribution, reproductive biology, and population threats of riparian Isthmohyla species. This includes describing new species currently misidentified within the genus Isthmohyla, uncovering previously unknown aspects of their reproductive biology, determining the specific environmental variables that influence their occurrence and distribution, and evaluating the virulence of the chytrid fungus and its impact on Isthmohyla populations. Additionally, the grant aims to conduct education programs to raise awareness among communities and the general public about the importance of protecting riparian Isthmohyla. This involves disseminating information about the conservation project to local communities surrounding the study sites, and highlighting the ecosystem services provided by riparian Isthmohyla and their habitats to ensure local communities recognize the importance of protecting these treefrogs. The overall goal is to enhance scientific understanding of Isthmohyla species while fostering a collaborative approach to conservation by engaging and educating local communities.
