Conservation and educational activities for Eleutherodactylus symingtoni (Symington's Robber Frog), a Critically Endangered amphibian of Cuba.

This Critically Endangered frog is only known from seven scattered localities in Cuba. It is strictly associated with rocky habitats and It has not been seen for more than 25 years in three of them. Populations might be threatened by Chytridiomycosis. We aim at starting a long-term monitoring program and at promoting its long-lasting conservation by developing educational activities with local people.

We have four main goals:

1. To rediscover the species in localities where it has not been spotted for more than 25 years.

2. To study the calling phenology of the species and its relationship with environmental factors.

3. To test for the presence of the chytrid fungus in the target species, in two sympatric species and in water samples in the natural habitat.

4. To develop educational actions with local people to promote a long lasting conservation of the specie in their natural environment.
