Conservation of Tepezmaite cycads (Ceratozamia morettii, C. brevifrons and C. tenuis) and its habitat through ecology and sensitizing local people
To the main objective is to study the populations of Ceratozamia morettii, C. tenuis and C. brevifrons and protect them by habitat restoration and community education in Central Veracruz, Mexico. The specific objectives are: • Generate information on abundance and spatial/geographical distribution of Ceratozamia morettii, C. tenuis and C. brevifrons in Central Veracruz, Mexico. • Determine population size of Ceratozamia morettii, C. tenuis and C. brevifrons in different ontogenic stages (i.e. seedling, sapling and adult). • Study the phenological and pollination process of the species. • Assess the habitats (in condition, suitability and threats) in which Ceratozamia morettii, C. tenuis and C. brevifrons species grow. • Identify the forest fragments which are a priority for the conservation of the species. • Using participatory approaches work with local people and authorities to sensitize and raise awareness on Ceratozamia morettii, C. tenuis and C. brevifrons in selected villages.
