Conservation of xanthostemon confertiflorous, an endangered endemic species from the ultramafic area in sulawesi.
Conservation of xanthostemon confertiflorus, an endangered endemic species from the ultramafic area in sulawesi.
Xanthostemon confertiflorus is recognized as a threatened species within the family Myrtaceae and is known to be endemic to Sulawesi Island. It is primarily found in ultramafic soil areas, and its existence is threatened by habitat degradation caused by land conversion into settlements and by mining activities. Although several reports on the occurrence of this species have been published, data on its population, distribution, and habitat characteristics remain limited; therefore, a conservation study on this species was conducted to address this gap. This project is intended to collect baseline data on the population, distribution, and habitat characteristics of Xanthostemon confertiflorus in East Luwu for population monitoring and habitat protection efforts, and posters and digital materials have been prepared to raise public awareness of its conservation status.
This grant is funded as part of our Fonseca Leadership Program which was established by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This fund supports young conservationists from developing countries.
