Loyo

Conservation of threatened fungi in Chile. Our objective is measure the impacts of harvesting on the mycelium, and determine whether different harvesting techniques can play an important role for the survival of Boletus loyo. Also, educate the people of the indigenous communities so they harvest correctly and respectfully towards the species through teaching them what fungi are, and which endangered species live in their forests.

Chambo Fish

RIPPLE Africa's Fish Conservation Project helps local communities in the Nkhata Bay District of northern Malawi to preserve and increase stocks of the endangered cichlid, Oreochromis lidole (Chambo Fish) in Lake Malawi. Fish Conservation Committees made up of local people educate fishermen, issue local fishing permits, monitor the size and mesh sizes of of nets and enforce a closed breeding season.

Widemouth gambusia

Mexico is home to hydrogen sulfide-rich springs so toxic that few organisms can survive in them. This project aims to preserve highly endemic fish that have adapted to these extreme environments. The project particularly focuses on Gambusia eurystoma, which is only known from a single sulfide spring complex. It also pertains to other micro-endemics in the area (Poecilia sulphuraria and P. thermalis).

Cuban Topminnow

The genus Girardinus is endemic from Cuba and is represented by seven species which six live in western Cuba. The survival of these target species is threatened by the introductions of alien piscivorous fish species, jointly with the water pollution. A detailed evaluation regarding to population parameters, ecological requirements and current threats for these endemic fish species are crucial for the management and their conservation.

Crau Plain Grasshopper

The Critically Endangered Crau Plain Grasshopper is endemic to the Crau Steppe in southern France. The species declined dramatically during the last decade even in habitats that appeared to be suitable. Only four sub-populations are left, which are highly fragmented. A strategic conservation plan has been developed in 2014. Our project aims at implementing this plan and save this species from extinction.

La Palma Stick Grasshopper

We try to know which are the host plant species for the endangered grasshopper Acrostira euphorbiae in order to know if recent alterations (fires, grazing, cutting off)) in its reduced distribution area have seriously affected the feeding possibilities. We will study trophic preferences by means of microhistology of faeces in the wild and experimental feeding tests in the lab.
