Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation (Project No. 0925157) - Comoro Iguana - Awarded $20,000 on January 01, 2010

The Comoros, an archipelago of oceanic islands in the Indian Ocean, are inhabited by a characteristic reptile fauna. Preliminary studies have shown that this fauna is rich in endemics and that many of these species are threatened by habitat destruction and invasive species. In our project, we conducted field surveys to collect data on species and habitats. We use this data to clarify the taxonomy of questionable species and to show which species are indeed endemic, and to assess the threat and conservation stati of these species. For certain focus species like the Comoro Iguana and endemic species of Day Geckos, we search for viable solutions to ensure their future conservation.
