The Society of Ornithological Studies of Reunion Island is a non-profit association created in 1997 to organize the campaign to rescue all grounded birds disoriented by artificial lights and all birds in distress. The keywords of the association are "studies", "actions of collective interest" and "voluntary work". Reunion Island is French overseas department located in the sub tropical latitude in the south-west Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mauritius Island. The SEOR aims of: • Favor the preservation of the avifauna of La Réunion and her circles • Be the privileged interlocutor of the planners and the administrators of the natural environment in the field of the ornithological studies • Promote the knowledge and make sensitive the children and the adults in the environmental protection birds of which are an essential constituent. The SEOR employs 9 employees and gets organized around 4 business parks: • Rescue of birds in distress, annually more than 2000 birds (Puffinus bailloni bailloni (+800 per year), Pterodroma baraui (+600 per year), Circus Maillardi (15-20 per year), Pseudobulweria aterrima (1-5 per year)… • Education to the environment (children, adults and professionals) • Studies for the preservation of birds (SEOR is managing some conservation plan for 2 critical endangered endemic bird : Reunion Cuckoo-Shrike, Coracina newtoni, Mascarene Petrel, Pseudobulweria aterrima, (current project) and 2 endangered endemic bird : Barau’s Petrel, Pterodroma baraui and Reunion Harrier, Circus maillardi. • Associative life and the animation of volunteers' network.
