This project general aim is to contribute for the conservation of the threatened Obô Snail Archachatina bicarinata and of the terrestrial malacological fauna of São Tomé island.
The project specific objetives are: 1. Identify critical areas important for the target species and endemic land snail species; 2. Promote the conservation of these areas through meetings and collaboration with governmental and other entities; 3. Fill critical gaps about the distribution and habitat associations of the target species and endemic land snail species; and 4. Engage local collectors of the target species proposing alternative source of income that may mitigate over-harvesting and help raising funds in favour to the long-term sustainability of the species conservation program.
