Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation (Project No. 192521876) - Blue-throated hillstar - Awarded $10,000 on October 15, 2019

Our main goal is saving the critically endangered Blue-throated Hillstar from imminent extinction by (1) creating a new reserve (249 hectares) to protect its core population, (2) restoring 3.4 hectares of BTH habitat with Chuquiraga plants, (3) monitoring existing populations to assess the conservation status of subpopulations and identify other key conservation areas and (4) launching an educational campaign to instill local pride for the species and find alternatives for the local agricultural practices that affect the survival of the species.
