Redlisting Project of Javan Endemic Damselfly (Prodasineura delicatula) collaborate with IUCN Dragonfly Specialist Group

Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation (Project No. 200524560) - Javan Threadtail - Awarded $4,995 on January 01, 2021

Prodasineura delicatula is Not Listed in IUCN Redlist website data. This condition is caused by a very lack of information about this species. Based on Indonesia Dragonfly Society (IDS) data only 3 locations where the population of P.delicatula exists. There are Nusakambangan Island, Ujung Kulon National Park and Sukabumi lowland forest. Their population is small and fragmented. This year IUCN Redlist is gathering data for 20 priority dragonflies species of Java and Lesser Sunda Island including this species. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, IUCN was not able to do a direct assessment. So they collaborate with IDS to do the assessment. This species is associated with tropical lowland forest where most of the Javan lowland forest is under threat by illegal logging, mining, and human disturbance. P.delicatula is a weak flyer which means their existence is easily threatened when the habitat gets disturbed. Population in Nusakambangan was not safe because the nature reserve area is only 7,18%. Even the limestone mining area is larger 8,26 % (1.734 hectares) and the impact is seen in Google Maps.

Based on this background research for P.delicatula Population, Distribution, Microhabitat condition, Threat information and Conservation and Action Plan are urgently needed.
