In-situ conservation of the endangered treefrog Isthmohyla pictipes in a tropical cloud forest of Costa Rica

Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation (Project No. 210526640) - Pico Blanco Tree Frog - Awarded $4,000 on January 23, 2022

The project will assess a remnant population of I. pictipes by conducting a long-term monitoring to study its reproductive phenology and to assist its conservation through local and accurate understanding of natural breeding populations in the Cordillera de Talamanca, Costa Rica. We aim to record courtship interactions, oviposition events, and other natural history aspects that have not yet been documented in the species (e.g. territorial and courtship behaviors). Our project seeks to develop environmental education activities with community members from surrounding villages of the study site to promote awareness as a complementary tool for the conservation of I. pictipes.
