The project assessed the local attitudes towards African golden cat conservation and poaching impacts on the population status and ecology of the golden cat at Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Local attitudes towards golden cat conservation were poor and the species abundance and habitat use were negatively impacted by poaching. Golden cat conservation should extend to forest reserves where poaching impacts may be most severe.

Nepal is a potential habitat of Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul), however neither its research has been carried out nor any information on this species is available from Nepal. Therefore, we are collecting the baseline information on Pallas’s cat in Nepal Himalaya. This proposed research help to fill the information gap of the species from Nepal.

The critically endangered Persian wild ass or onager (Equus hemionus onager) is now restricted to only two distantly located protected areas in Iran. This project aims to determine key suitable habitats and potential sources of mortality of the larger onager population in and around Bahram-e-Gour Protected Area in Iran to inform landscape level conservation plans for the species.

Working with local communities and relevant authorities LBA aims to increase their awareness and improve the conservation status of the northern white-cheeked crested gibbon. The project will result in increased capacity through targeted training to allow an assessment of gibbon status and threats and increased knowledge on the status of gibbons to identify keys areas for conservation activities.

When live Sunda pangolins are confiscated from the trade they are often released into the wild with minimal health checks and no post-release monitoring. This project is releasing and monitoring six individuals, determining if release is a viable placement option. From this, international standard protocols will be developed that can be implemented by the Forest Protection Department and other conservation organisations across Vietnam.

The neotropical otter is one of the least studied otter species due to its discrete behavior and consequent low detectability in natural environment. This situation is aggravated in northeast region of Brazil, which appears as a gap in neotropical otters current distribution maps. This project aims to increase the knowledge related to Lontra longicaudis and its habitat preferences in northeastern Brazil, contributing to its conservation.

Conservation detection dogs were trained to detect wire snares and work with anti-poaching teams in the buffer zone of South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. Dogs provided additional snare-finding capacity and allowed scouts to cover more ground more efficiently for detecting wire snares of all kinds.

The Sahamalza sportive lemur, Lepilemur sahamalazensis, is a small nocturnal primate that was discovered only recently in the north-west of Madagascar. In comparison to other sportive lemur species it has received very little scientific attention so far. This project aimed at studying the social organisation of the Sahamalaza sportive lemur as a step towards discovering more about this virtually unknown species.
