The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund has awarded $28,744,053 to 3049 conservation projects for all species types with all IUCN classifications throughout the world. Project managers that have decided to publish their projects, are illustrated on the map below.

White-clawed Crayfish

Freshwater crayfish conservation in northern Italy: prevention of extinctions and restoration of a key population of Austropotamobius pallipes. This project will allow to obtain effective and update data on the causes driving the exctinctions currently occurring in northern Italy. It will also restore a key population in the Monte Barro regional Park and provide management instructions for the last streams inhabited by A. pallipes.

Bellinger River Snapping Turtle

In February 2015, the Bellinger River Snapping Turtle (Myuchelys georgesi) experienced a mass mortality event in which an unknown disease killed most of the adult population, but spared juveniles. This project works to conserve the remaining Bellinger River Snapping turtles and bring the species back from the brink of extinction.

Terminalia acuminata

Guarajuba (Terminalia acuminata), is one out of three Brazilian plants declared Extinct in the Wild by the IUCN Red List. Rediscovered in 2015, this distinctive tree survives as several discrete subpopulations within the city of Rio de Janeiro. While the rediscovery gives cause for optimism, the extant population is in urgent need of research and evidence-based action to save it from the brink of extinction.

Tahina palm

Conservation of the Critically Endangered palm Tahina spectabilis in Madagascar. A decade ago, an extraordinary monotypic palm was discovered in a remote location in Madagascar. With only a tiny known population, in a threatened habitat, and a reproductive strategy where the palm dies after flowering, this species urgently needed conservation action to protect it....

Cauca Poison Frog

Our project intends to link forestry and pastures areas in the conservation of the Cauca Poison Frog (Andinobates bombetes) in the Santa Rosa watershed, through the evaluation of the effect two matrices have on the relative abundance of the frog, the establishment of stepping stones in these matrices to determine the dispersion level, and the implementation of educational workshops with the community.
